Spartans are a crazy bunch. We are pretty passionate about living the Spartan lifestyle and take racing very serious. But through all that intensity, we are pretty damn badass and love a good muddy time.
Before you jump into anything with a Spartan racer you should be aware of the following.
10 Things To Be Aware Of Before Dating & Marrying A Spartan Racer.
1-Your first date will be a 10 mile run, followed by 100 burpees and finished up with a rope climb holding a kettle bell.
2-Instead of going to a Caribbean island on vacation, you are informed that you have been booked for an amazing hotel close to the venue of a spartan race and that a spectator pass has your name on it.
3-You might be told at some point, “Hold on babe, I just got the volunteer email and have a 10 minute limit to choose a position before it fills up. I will call you back.’
4-Your car will start looking like a training center including buckets, water bottles, a spear, 3 different pairs of all-terrains, chews, spartan headbands, and a log.
5-You will never have to worry about your significant other screaming another persons name while you get romantic, however you may hear a screamed ‘AROO’ at some point.
6-You will watch the movie ‘300’ every Sunday to get ready for Monday and the week ahead of training.
7-You will have to do 5 pull-ups before you enter the kitchen on a pull up bar that has been placed in the doorway. Come on, you got it.
8-When it rains or snows, instead of cuddling up and having coffee and watching a good movie, you will have to go outside and make a mud pit that you can crawl through and do burpees in.
9-Instead of a profile pic of both of you, a medal monday pic will go up every other Monday. Don’t worry, it doesn’t mean you are not loved. Let’s be honest, the medals are pretty unbelievable.
10-Plan on an extra 20 minutes when you go to any public place, cause if you run into a fellow spartan wearing a finisher shirt, it is on. Of course you need to find out what races they have run and what training they are doing.
There you have it.
There is no better way to understand us than to join us.
You will know at the finish line.
Much Love, Amie
Do you have anymore tips for people becoming a part of our crazy spartan family? I want to know them. Comment below and if I love them, I will add them onto the list.
I know it is Sunday. One of the worst days to blog, but hey, I always have to go against the grain so here we are. I wanted to get this out so that we all could start our week off with a..
Every year I put out a fitness contract that I require my team and clients to sign. If you are like me, it is hard because of time and business to sit down and write out goals. I usually have goals written out on envelopes and papers everywhere. Come on, I know there are some of you out there like this?! The problem is, when I am ready to read through them, they are lost forever or thrown away, which is me all the way. I hate clutter. I am huge on lists and love watching things be checked off as I accomplish them.
I wanted to make a list of a few goals that makes it easy for everyone. Not only that, I think a lot of people like to answer to someone. That is why many people get trainers so that they feel responsible for following through.
2017 is going to be an amazing year. Filled with mud, adventure, new obstacles, and new friends. Doing things alone is not as fun as doing them with someone. So, if you are with me and want some OCR goals made easy for you. Print it up and get ready to kick ass.

The 2017 Dumbbellhousewife Spartan OCR Fitness Contract.
1-I promise to tackle the obstacle that has been my nemesis.
2-I will increase my speed. It doesn’t matter if it is a huge amount, any amount matters.
3-I will make sure to take care of my parasympathetic nervous system.
4-I will run a race in a new location.
5-I will in some way reach out and help someone in the Spartan OCR community. Going beyond saying hi and smiling. I will keep doing that too, I know a smile can change someone’s day.
6-I will show up and get the training that I need. No excuses this year.
7-I will get at least 1 person to come race with me.
8-I will be a good example of how spartan’s live. Healthy living, being nice and helpful, and living brave, strong, and tough.
9-I will not compare my journey to anyone else’s journey. My chapter 1 may be another’s chapter 20. There is room for everyone to succeed and thrive.
10-I will try something that scares the living crap out of me. I will not let FEAR keep me from being who I am and doing what I want.
I have been wanting to change the way I blog for the entire last year. I know, crazy. I just didn’t know the right way to go about it. I didn’t know how to transition into what I really want to talk about.
So, I am starting over. Why you ask? Because I have changed. I have grown up in so many ways and I don’t want to live and blog about things that are not the way I feel. I hate living in a way that is not authentic to me. I want to blog about my new ways of living a healthy lifestyle. My opinions of the health industry have totally changed and I want to talk about them. I want to talk about everything OCR(obstacle course racing). I want to talk about raising teenagers. I have seven of them and I feel that I have a lot to offer about raising teens. It has been the most challenging thing I have done. I want to talk about our new gym ‘THE MAX’. I want to talk about all the things that go into running a gym as well as having business partners as your best friends and how we make it work. I want to talk about parties, because we throw a party like nobody’s business. I want to talk about science because I am a total nerd. I want to connect more with all of you, because I am a people person and that is why I started blogging in the first place. There are so many fitness blogs out there that talk about workouts, diets, and fitness tips. At first I really had a passion for being one of those, but not anymore. I still will share amazing workouts when I come up with one that I know you guys will love.
Why do I know that it will be just fine? I am sure that I will lose some followers and that is ok. I just want to try to keep things authentic to who I am. I hope you guys feel that. I feel like to be a great blogger you have to connect to people as well as be a great community leader. Because in all reality, you are creating a little community of your own. I have a talent for bringing people together. I am all about community and connecting with people on a deep level. I want to connect with you, and I hope you want to connect with me as well.
Here we go 2017. Bring on the change. I hope that you will still follow along with me. I hope you know how much I appreciate you. I appreciate your support and I want to give you posts that will benefit you living a healthy lifestyle which to me encompasses every aspect of life.
Hello my friends! My name is Amie Ellis and I am so excited to give you a dose of healthy living inspiration.
Who am I? I am no one really. Just a mom of seven kiddos, a wife to a fabulous man, athlete, racer, director, instructor, a trainer, a life coach, a friend, daughter, sister and lover of life. Wow, I guess that makes me somebody!
Why do I do this? I do this to inspire women to change their thinking. After years of training, I realized that the majority of women I met had a very low self-esteem about themselves. My mission became very clear and I knew exactly what I wanted and needed to do. I needed to start a revolution; a revolution of women that didn’t hate themselves.
Where and when? You can count on having posts a couple of times a week, and maybe even an extra one if your lucky. Don’t forget to LIKE me on Facebook for inspiration posted daily. I can’t wait to get to know you and hear your stories.
Time to live healthy.
Feel free to message me with any questions you might have at email@example.com. You can also find me on Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest. Follow along with our new gym, ‘The MAX’.
As an athlete I love everything about performance. I love learning about it. I love seeing the body perform under pressure. I love bio hacking, and the art of what makes up a great athlete. The body has the capacity to perform at levels that blow my mind. I think for many of us we live for understanding the way food can impact our performance.
Years ago I remember people laughing at me and kind of looking down on me for eating low carb. My team and I normally keep the carbs fairly low unless we are getting ready for a race or competition. Muffins, granola, and trail mix are a few staples of many athletes, but not of my athletes. Therefor, this seemed like a great challenge for my team to dive into. Basically it is how we live anyway, just instead of diving into the shallow end of the pool we are going to dive as deep as we can into the deep side.
The Keto Diet.
I am a total health nerd and love reading studies and articles about pretty much anything. I understand that science can get very long and boring so I will keep it short and simple.
The ketogenic diet is keeping your carbohydrates low and healthy fats high.
Reducing your carbs puts your body into a metabolic state called KETOSIS.
When this happens your body becomes efficient at burning fat for energy.
The Goal & Project.
My SponsorFit Food 2 You is the only food prep company that I know of that offers a Keto program. They have a nutritionist that is behind every meal. They only use grass-fed beef. On top of that the meals are unbelievably tasty which is important to me. I have to enjoy the taste of my food or I will not eat it. Many of us have such busy lives that food prep is the last thing that we can fit in. They are here to do it for you. I was so excited to hear that they have a keto program.
I am planning on doing this until my next race which will be on Oct. 22nd in Seattle. I want you guys to be a part of this experiment with me. It isn’t fun doing things by yourself, especially when it comes to diet. I am excited to see the results and how I feel over the next 6 weeks.
On top of eating Keto, I am going to try to roll & stretch every day, get to bed a lot earlier and take time to enjoy some of my hobbies that I have put on the back burner because of time restraints. All things healthy living. 🙂
If you want to succeed I think that it is important to have an arsenal of knowledge that you can pull from. Not only that, but having a support system is key as well. With that in mind, I started a Pinterest board that I am calling ‘Fat, fat, healthy fat. Keto project‘ to help us all stay motivated and have ideas that we can try. Snacks are my downfall so this will help me stay focused with keto approved snacks.
I have been on the keto diet for the last week and this is what I have been doing…
*I start my day of with a glass of bulletproof coffee. If you don’t know what bulletproof coffee is, where have you been? Just kidding, check it out here. Brain power coffee
Don’t worry, there are other options than just Bulletproof coffee, that is just what I am choosing.
*I will then eat a keto lunch and dinner that Fit Food 2 You has prepared me. If I need to snack I am going to stay to the keto plan and I will let you know what kind of things I am eating. If you don’t follow me on insta make sure you go follow me right now, cause I will be posting things that I eat on my insta-snap all the time. 🙂
*In my opinion fats are NOT equal. Please don’t think that you can eat any fatty thing you want and it is ok. Healthy fats are what we are going for. 🙂 Get as organic, and non processed fats as possible. *Remember that you can only go two ways with your food. What you put in your mouth either helps your health or it doesn’t. Don’t think that means that you are never allowed to enjoy food and life. In my opinion, enjoying soul foods every once and awhile is just as important to living healthy as eating clean is.
*Keep protein intake to moderate.
*Tons of water as always.
*Log how you are feeling and what is happening in a journal. My team will be taking notes like crazy.
This post is so damn long, even I am getting bored with it. lol So, let’s finish it up and get ready to kick ass at this challenge.
Are you in? If so, please comment below with your name. Let’s stay connected so that we can help and pull each other through.
I can’t wait to get out on the race course and see how I feel. Are any of you going to be there? Hit me up if you are. I would love to get together and talk, especially if you decide to do this project.
Finally, thanks to my amazing sponsor Fit Food 2 You. If you are not already friends with them make sure to show them some love on fb and insta. Get in touch with them if you need any help with food prep. They will take good care of you. We are in the process of setting up a discount code so I will let you know when that has been established.
